Abstract

In 1993, I imagined and presented “Sensor Communication Society (SCS)”, which phrase I made. Applying various and tremendous number of MEMS as I/O devices in communication systems was a paradigm to make our society happy by innovation of (1) facility maintenance and operation, (2) human communication including sensors to sensors communication, and (3) the global environmental protection. Such applications require many kinds of low cost sensors and energy harvesters. I will discuss SAW sensors and vibration driven energy harvesters for IoT, Trillion Sensors, or SCS.

Hiroki Kuwano received his B.Eng. and M.Eng. Degrees in mechanical engineering and his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Tohoku University in 1975, 1977, and 1990, respectively. He was working for Nippon Telephone and Telegraph Public Corporation (NTT) for 26 years. Since 2003, he has been a Professor at Tohoku University. His research interests are SCS, energy harvesting systems, surface acoustic wave devices, and multi focused ion beams. Prof. Kuwano was the recipient of the NTT President Award in 1993 and 1994, the Best Paper Award of The Japanese Society for Precision Engineering in 1997, the Best Poster Presentation Award of PowerMEMS Int. Conference in 2010.
